Sgraffito

I begin with a template of my drawing that I transfer to the piece. Once transferred, I can sharpen the image with a soft pencil and add detail

Next comes the carving! I use a kemper K23 clean up tool, pin tool, and small wire tool to sgraffito.

In this image, I've painted the clouds white with underglaze, and then masked out areas with liquid latex so I can lay in colors.

Once the colors are down, I remove the latex and it's time for glazing!

The finished chicken!
